Seamus Turns Six

On the morning of April 19th, Seamus got out of bed, came into my room, and asked if he'd gotten any taller overnight. After all, it was the morning of his 6th birthday, and to him it would only make sense that if he's another year older then he must also be taller, stronger, faster...bigger in all ways. Every year since he turned three his birthday mornings have begun with this same line of questioning.

This year S's birthday was on a Friday. Thomas and I decided to surprise him at school with a little snack time birthday party for his kindergarten class. I made these caterpillar cupcakes, and we brought party hats and brown paper bags full of nature-themed party favors. Seamus's teacher asked the class to listen as Thomas and I told Seamus's birth story, and then we all ate cupcakes and enjoyed the morning.

A couple of weeks later, Grandie and Grandpa came up for a visit, and we celebrated Seamus's birthday again. It was as small family affair. Thomas made a crazy-looking frog pinata, and I made an Eastern-Spotted Newt cake (S's request). Grandie and Grandpa surprised S with a drum kit for his birthday. Here are a few of the photos from that wonderful weekend...
