These past few days have felt like a beach vacation, without the sand and ocean. We've been sleeping in, playing at the pool and the park, going to restaurants, wearing shorts and walking around smelling like sunscreen all day.
Yesterday was just about the most perfect day by far. We took Mr. S to the pool down the street, where he hopped around like a frog in the kiddie pool and then swam like a shark in the big pool.
On our way out of the pool the ice cream man pulled in, followed shortly by his more expensive rival. I could write a whole blog post about these two and the nasty looks they give each other at the playgrounds. Anyhowish, there happens to be a dog park and playground across the street from the municpal pool, so we wrapped things up with some bird chasing, swinging and some ice cream.
And then later that night, we took the train up to the Broadway diner, one of our favorite resturants, and had a feast. I had scrumptious buttermilk pancakes, while the boys had a turkey dinner with all the fixins. We finished it off with a black forest cake.
We skipped the fireworks in Manhattan this year, didn't feel like wading through crowds or keeping Seamus up way past his bedtime. Still, it was a fabulous 4th!
Enjoy all the photos of Mr. S because for the next two weeks Mr. T will have the digital camera with him in Rhode Island. I expect lots of photos and a full report on this blog from him.
